Wear out Wednesday

Our microwave is over 25 years old !

We bought it in the mid 80’s. (Not brand new, but used) It also went through our house burning down in the 90’s. During that event it suffered water, heat and smoke damage. We cleaned it up and it ran fine. We’ve been using it everyday, many times a day all these years, and it is still running fine ! It’s big, simple, and let’s face it – a working “wonder”. It seems to never “wear out”  !

In the Bible, we learn that God’s provisions for the children of Israel never wore out during their wilderness experience.

“And I have led you forty years in the wilderness. Your clothes have not worn out on you, and your sandals have not worn out on your feet…” (Deut. 29:5)

Whatever wilderness experience you may be going through, God’s promise to provide for His people has never changed. His “working wonders” go beyond clothing, shoes, and microwaves……….

……..to the promised land of eternity with Him – forever !

Teeth Tuesday

Going to the dentist is not one of my favorite pastimes.

I know I need to take care of my teeth, but I usually wait much longer than I should before I finally go to the dental center. When my name is called and I travel down the hallway to “my” room, the sounds and smells coming from the other rooms as I pass them cause me to feel nauseous.  Entering “my” room, I dread the sight of the “reclining chair” where I will have to sit and try to remain calm.

Even though the people working there are trying to create a cheerful atmosphere, the underlying truth remains the same……..this is a “house of pain” !!  Let’s face it, tooth pain is one of the worst. In fact, the Bible even makes reference to it.  Jesus said:

“So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come forth, separate the wicked from among the just, and cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.” (Math. 13:49,50)

Perhaps to really make His point – being thrown into the furnace of fire where there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth  – is mentioned twice in the same chapter……

You know, tooth pain is bad enough, but to experience even more horrific pain on top of that –  for eternity – well,  I’m just VERY glad that Jesus gave us an alternative –

Eternal life with Him in Heaven,

where there will be no more pain…………

Thankful Thursday

I am already looking forward to Thanksgiving. It is one of my favorite holidays. So much goodness can be associated with it.  When I stop to think about all I have to be thankful for, problems I thought I had can fade away. If I start my day in a spirit of thankfulness, my attitude already softens. Being reminded to also “give” thanks projects goodness outward and affects people around me.

Who are you giving thanks to? If you think about it, there are probably many people in your life deserving of a hearty “thank you”! Besides the obvious good things that folks do for us, even things that might seem bad at first can end up turning out for the good. It’s not easy to feel thankful when an event looks or feels bad. When our house burned down, things seemed pretty bad at first. I remember asking God why He would allow that to happen. But as time went by, I found out that our lives became better because of it!

Only God can turn something disastrous into a blessing. He promises to work “all” things out for the good. Because of my close relationship with Him, my faith can sustain me while I wait on Him for the “good” ending to the story.

Now that’s something to really be thankful for !
