Task Tuesday

What task should I do next?

During the Christmas season this question can come up more times than usual. Our lives can be brimming with the “tasks” of Christmas. Shopping for gifts and food, cleaning and decorating our homes, donating to special ministries and charities, sending Christmas cards, baking special holiday treats, contacting friends and family members we haven’t seen or talked to in awhile, etc., etc.

Every so often, we are reminded about the reason for the season, the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ – our living Savior. For a little while we can stop all the above and put our thoughts back into perspective and perhaps even cut back on some of the “tasks” we have set before us.

Too many tasks can cause us to work too hard for that perfect Christmas. The perfect Christmas already happened ! This is the season to celebrate the greatest gift that has already been and still “is” being given – freely given – our saving relationship with Jesus, the Son of God. We don’t need to work for it, all we have to do is believe…….

“What shall we do , that we may work the works of God?”, the disciples asked. Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.” (John 6: 28-29)

Jesus fulfilled His Holy “task” on earth for all of us – on the cross –

……..it is finished – HALLELUJAH !

Frenzy Friday

I’m not really a “shopper”.

That does surprise some of the ladies I know. And this being the infamous “Black Friday”, I find it more enjoyable to steer clear of the shopping areas around town. Sure, I do hear that there are some bargains out there to be had, but personally, the stress level involved doesn’t seem worth it.

Recently, I did hear about the person who “died”  being trampled by the stampede of shoppers. So in order to somehow avoid this “frenzy” from happening, some of the stores are starting the “Black Friday” at midnight the night before………………

Thanksgiving Day seems to get shorter every year in order to jump-start the purchasing of Christmas gifts. Christmas decorations were going up before Thanksgiving, instead of the traditional days afterwards. We don’t seem to get to enjoy the actual holiday, because of the “selling” of the next one in line.

There are those of us who have decided to not enter into this madness of society, and to slow down and enjoy the holidays as “Holy-Days” – as they were intended.

“If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.” (Col. 3: 1-2)

Ward off the “frenzy” with “faith” in the living Christ who shows us what really matters – and have peace this Christmas season.

Meager Monday

Better is a dry morsel with quietness, than a house full of feasting with strife. (Proverbs 17:1)

As Christmas Day approaches, concerns about food and gifts are on our minds. How much food? How many gifts? Will there be enough? Did I give enough?

The story of the “Wise Men” giving gifts to Jesus on the “first” Christmas forever marked in time this very special day of the year. They gave generously to who they knew was the “King of Kings”.

But Jesus did not arrive as a “King”. His humble birth and life of service brought Him very close to those with “meager” holdings. He led a life of “meager” existence. But what He gave to all of us was “priceless”.

He reminded us that our quality of  life is not based on material possessions or status – that focusing on those things can bring us a life of trouble and worry. Jesus exemplified a simple and holy life. A life of true meaning and great worth.

He showed us that “much” can come from “meager”.

Miracle Monday

Do you believe in miracles?

Can they be explained? And if they can be explained, are they no longer miracles?

We can experience an event and decide it is a “miracle”.  It is “super” natural, having no logical explanation. Looking around our world, there would seem to be many events that happen daily, having no logical explanation. You put a seed in the ground, and water it, and a plant grows. We can describe how it happens, but how does it “really” happen?

The air that we breathe is necessary for us to stay alive, but where did it come from? We can describe the components, but how do we explain the intricate part it plays in sustaining us? All around us are examples of the miracle of “life” in one form or another. Flowers bloom, trees grow, animals reproduce – babies are born………

The “miracle” of “life” – we can tell about it, theorize it,  but it truly remains unexplainable. As Christmas approaches, we are reminded about the biggest miracle of all – Jesus’s birth………A “miraculous” event that impacted the entire world, and continues to do so. He was born to die…….and then live again……..for us to be saved. His was a Holy birth –  God’s Son.

It’s not just a story, it’s a “miracle” worth believing.
