Merry Christmas Monday

MERRY CHRISTMAS !

How about – Merry Christmas “month”?

I have noticed that at the beginning of December the Christmas spirit runs high, but by the time Christmas Day arrives, there are those folks who are ready for it to be “over”!

Perhaps their focus has been more on the temporal pleasures of the season and not on the eternal joy that it represents. Decorations, lights, sweets, parties – are all lots of fun in the beginning, but they do all come to an end. And then what?

Some folks have been stressed out by the pressure of the perfect gift, the perfect meal, the perfect settings. High expectations for the perfect family get togethers strengthen all month – only to be knocked down by imperfect people, and their varied perspectives.

Jesus was born in an imperfect place, surrounded by imperfect people. He came to love us, while we were imperfect – to offer Himself up – as “the Way, the Truth, and the Life”.

If we focus on Christ as the true “meaning of the season”, there will be no “then what’s” after December 25th has passed.

Only a wonderful anticipation of  “what’s next?”

Fault finding Friday

It’s your fault………!

When someone says that to me, it doesn’t feel very good. If it’s true, then it feels even worse. But – if something “good” came out of it, then, maybe it’s not so bad after all!

If fault finding becomes a habit, life can become a long list of negative thoughts – focusing on what’s bad about something – and perhaps forgetting what’s “good” about something. Finding fault can also lead to the “blame game” – who did it, who caused it.

In our imperfect world, it is really quite easy to find faults. Defects surround us. People, situations and circumstances – can all eventually cause disappointment – the inevitable blight on an almost perfect picture.

Re-directing our focus on what’s “good” about something can lead to a healthy acceptance of imperfection – and the intrinsic “value” of it…….

…….for we have all come into this world lost and imperfect, so as to need our Savior – Jesus – who offers us up as perfect to our Heavenly Father – through His death and resurrection on the cross………

With Jesus, faults won’t be found!
